Formation

Formation, with Grace

In addition to our Sunday worship services there are many opportunities for adults to engage in spiritual formation and community. Below you will find some descriptions of such events that are regularly offered here in the parish.

Bible and Book Study

Bible and/or Book Studies are offered seasonally throughout the program year. During the liturgical seasons of Advent, Lent, and in Eastertide folks are encouraged to take part in these studies. When in progress these studies take place on Wednesdays 10:30AM In-Person and 7:30PM on Zoom. Check with the parish office or the events calendar for more information.

On the second Sunday of the month (October through May at approximately 11:30AM) is a forum hour offered for folks interested in ongoing and more in-depth conversation about ecclesiastical, scriptural, and/or theological subjects in the office conference room. Sometimes there is a topic discussed over several months, and sometimes it is a topic just for that session. Check with the parish office or the events calendar for more inflammation on the monthly topic.

Monday through Friday at 9:30AM prayers are offered in our chancel area using the Morning Prayer liturgy found in the Book of Common Prayer. This service usually lasts about 25 minutes and is a beautiful way to spend time in prayer for our world, our communities, and ourselves. As part of this service we also read scriptures appointed for that day along with the Forward Day by Day devotional.

Wednesdays at 12Noon folks gather in the chancel to celebrate the Holy Eucharist and Healing Prayers using the liturgies from the Book of Occasional Services and the Enriching Our Worship series. This service has several times of intentional silence woven into the liturgy to allow for contemplative prayer and meditation. Anointing with sacred oil with prayers for healing are also available for those who would like them during this service. Light incense is commonly used during this service.

All are welcome to walk the Labyrinth; it is always open to the public. Walking a labyrinth is an ancient form of meditation or prayer. There is no single right way to follow the path. It can be used as a way to focus your thoughts on a question or concern, a way to find peace, center yourself, or get in touch with deep seeds of thoughts in your mind. Try entering the path of the labyrinth with a quiet and open mind; walk slowly, perhaps focus on a spiritual question, or repeat a prayer. When you reach the center, pause to reflect, pray, and listen for an answer or for a deeper revelation. Now begin the return journey. Pray or reflect further. Upon exiting, absorb the experience with continued reflection. Finally, give thanks for the opportunity to be in touch with and inspired by something higher than yourself. Members of the Grace Diners Club meet once a month for dinner during the program year September through June), in homes and/or restaurants, to simply get to know others from our community over a shared meal, and maybe a ‘house’ cocktail. Each autumn new groups are formed to allow members of the parish to expand their connection in the community. Everyone is welcome to join, and if you missed the initial sign up there may still be an opportunity to join with an existing dinner group for the remainder of the year. For more information contact Kristin Anderson.

The Grace Church Chapter of the ECW meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. At the beginning of the meeting time the group shares in a meal and conversation, forming important ministry relationships; most months participants bring their own lunch (food is provided on some special occasions). The official meeting of the chapter follows and it contains times for prayer and sharing personal prayer concerns, minutes, financials, project discussions, and on occasion special speakers or projects. All women in the church are invited to participate, for more information contact Mon Hinman.
